There are plenty of places in the world wrecked because of war the US don't seem to give a crap about, mainly because they aren't important oil wise.

I'm not 100% up to date on this issue, but I can guarantee you this isn't some random act of kindness...

I think you guys should check your facts. The US gets the majority of its oil from Canada and Mexica, then South America and the tiny drop in the bucket that we produce ourselves. And the reason we don't drill for more oil is because the damned environmentalists talk loudly and the politicians don't want to do anything, at least that is how it was done under the Republicans, the Democrats actually agree with them (until election time when they make false promises to stay in office) and they do everything they can to keep us from drilling for our own oil so we can keep shipping billions of dollars to other countries as they ship millions of barrels of oil to us. Not smart when the government is nine trillion dollars in debt and they don't want us giving that money to American companies for American oil that they can tax.

You speak of assumptions: A Theory. In science every theory is presumed wrong unless proven otherwise.

Also, i do not "worship" science, but i much prefer not to live life based on made up stuff. And prefer not having arrogance of having all the answers.

Also, your swimming example is wrong. It is not swimming and calling it prefect it is swimming and wanting to know why it works. Eventually deciphering it and improving. Only religion would call their "swimming" perfect without understanding a thing, because it does not require any real understanding to work (it only requires understading of underlying made up wishfull thinking stuff)
I'm sorry I can't let that bolded line go. Science is presenting facts. Any PR person can twist facts to look good or bad on a peculiar subject. Just go look at Microsoft's PR regarding the 360 and the NPD reports every month. They have a much cheaper product than Sony and a lot better line up of games than Nintendo yet they are constantly fighting to finish above the ps3 and ps2 and constantly getting hammered by the Wii, yet looking at their PR you wouldn't know it. And religion is considered to be history, not science. So arguments between the two is kind of stupid.

You speak of Information (mis)interpretation which only really works in PR which omits facts or compares uncomparable. If such stuff functioned in science we wouldn't be havign this conversation over internet because PR hogwash "facts" would always fail miserably and fall apart when it is time to apply knowledge and do stuff.

There is process of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer_review which thanks to highly competitive nature of science sorts out all kinds of such mistakes be it deliberate or just errors. (unless you believe in some conspiracies).

I know about peer review. But science is a presentation of facts. Look at the global warming stuff. There are a bunch of scientists on both sides of that, the politicians have latched onto the world is going to end unless you elect me part of the science. Both sides do research and present facts until finally everyone believes that it is as close to fact as we can understand right now. I think you are looking at the end product, where everyone agrees that this is how things are to the best of our knowledge, and I am looking at the process where everyone presents the facts to the best of their knowledge.

Personally I hope Russia drops one of their new RS-12M stealth 550 Kilotonne ICBMs on Georgia, and just ends them.... and I want a refund of the 1 billion...
